Untitled
My auntie has Alzheimer's and I was thinking of her when I wrote this:
I hold on to your memories
As you're no longer able
Your eyes are so empty
As I sit at your table
You say that you know me
But can't say my name
The pictures in your mind
Fall down from their frame
You were back for a moment
But then you were gone
And now you are lost
Like a bird with no song
I hold on to your memories
As you're no longer able
Your eyes are so empty
As I sit at your table
You say that you know me
But can't say my name
The pictures in your mind
Fall down from their frame
You were back for a moment
But then you were gone
And now you are lost
Like a bird with no song
Warriors
The warriors came
And marched through the town
With death and destruction
They spilled blood on the ground
Innocents were lost
On a hot summers day
As the warriors walked on
With nothing to say
The papers reported it
With no sense of loss
We tried to bring order
But what has it cost
And marched through the town
With death and destruction
They spilled blood on the ground
Innocents were lost
On a hot summers day
As the warriors walked on
With nothing to say
The papers reported it
With no sense of loss
We tried to bring order
But what has it cost

A Beautiful Day
The back door is open
And I hear the birds sing
The day has turned yellow
With the joy that it brings
Grandchildren laughing
As they play in the sun
The sound lasts forever
On a day of such fun
The warm air is still
As we sit on the grass
The hours tick slowly
And I hope this day lasts
And I hear the birds sing
The day has turned yellow
With the joy that it brings
Grandchildren laughing
As they play in the sun
The sound lasts forever
On a day of such fun
The warm air is still
As we sit on the grass
The hours tick slowly
And I hope this day lasts
